Despite the fact that they’re Joey Barton’s favourite band and, well, Morrissey is undoubtedly a bit of a mug, The Smiths were undeniably cool.
They may have hit their cool peak when that JGL fella was in love with them in (500) Days Of Summer, but – ask your Dad – they were top banana back in the days when saying stuff like ‘top banana’ was still a thing.
While the rest of the Eighties fell apart at the polyester-jacketed, shoulder-padded seams, The Smiths stayed cold as ice.
Here are a few of our favourite Smiths looks and how you can get ’em yourself (rampant romantic fatalism optional):
Look at how happy they are! Don’t think Morrissey was ever that happy again (daffodil and all) but look how cool they all look. Marr with those shades, Mozza’s blue bomber: that’s a pretty ace look, no matter what the decade.
Hipsters on bikes, eh? Somethings just don’t change. Despite the fact that he’s wearing a t-shirt OF HIS OWN BAND (naughty Morrissey; very bad Morrissey), the look of his video has become pretty timeless: tortoise shell rims, black Harrington and a snarky take on happiness.

BLEACH WASH SPRAY ON SKINNY JEANS
Never have we seen Mozza looking so cool. Although a classy denim jacket accessorised with some chinos or some bleached-denim (see above) will never not look ace.
